Whole-Body Perspective for Dermatologist Services
Heather is a board-certified Physician Assistant with more than 21 years of direct patient care experience. Her educational background brings a deep understanding of how the body’s systems work together:
This broad medical foundation is especially valuable in dermatology. The hair, skin, and nails are not isolated structures. They often reflect what’s happening inside your body. Nutritional deficiencies, autoimmune conditions, hormonal changes, stress, and whole-body illness can all manifest externally.
Heather approaches each patient with that whole-body mindset.
- Undergraduate degree in Pre-Physical Therapy with minors in Chemistry & Biology from Utah State University
- Master’s degree in Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Utah

Expertise in Hair Loss & Scalp Conditions
Hair loss is one of the most emotionally distressing conditions patients experience, and it affects both women and men at every stage of life.
Heather frequently evaluates and treats:
- Female pattern hair loss
- Male pattern baldness
- Telogen effluvium (stress-related shedding)
- Alopecia areata
- Postpartum hair loss
-
Scalp conditions like inflammation & irritation
During a hair loss consultation, Heather works to determine:
- When the hair loss began
- Whether shedding or thinning is occurring
- Family history
- Recent illness, stress, or hormonal changes
-
Signs of scalp inflammation or scarring
From there, she develops a personalized treatment plan that may include topical medications, oral treatments, lifestyle adjustments, or further medical evaluation when needed.
Her goal is not just to treat hair loss, but to give patients clarity, realistic expectations, and a path forward.
Nail Disorders: More Than a Cosmetic Concern
Nail changes are often dismissed as cosmetic, but they can signal underlying nail conditions and disorders.
Heather commonly treats:
- Fungal nail infections
- Thickened or brittle nails
- Nail discoloration
- Nail psoriasis
- Inflammatory nail disorders
-
Painful ingrown nails
Because nails grow slowly, improvement takes time, and accurate diagnosis matters. What looks like a nail fungus may actually be psoriasis. What appears to be trauma may indicate an inflammatory condition.
Heather takes the time to carefully evaluate nail structure, growth patterns, and surrounding skin to determine the most effective treatment approach.
Managing Skin Rashes & Inflammatory Skin Conditions
In addition to hair and nail disorders, Heather treats a wide range of chronic skin conditions, including:
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Rosacea
- Contact dermatitis
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Fungal & bacterial infections
For many Cache Valley patients, seasonal weather changes, dry air, and outdoor exposure can worsen inflammatory skin conditions. Heather helps patients identify triggers, understand flare patterns, and build manageable long-term treatment plans.
Her approach focuses on control and prevention, helping patients reduce flare-ups and improve skin resilience over time.
A Passion for Patient Education
One of the things patients appreciate most about Heather is her dedication to education.
She believes that when patients understand their condition, they feel more confident and empowered in managing it. The skin is the largest organ in the body, and it often provides early warning signs of deeper health issues.
Heather takes time to explain:
- What’s causing a condition
- Why a particular treatment works
- How long improvement may take
- What realistic results look like
- How to protect skin, hair, and nails long-term
That partnership approach helps patients feel heard and supported.
Local Dermatologist with Goals & Cache Valley Roots
Although Heather spent much of her childhood living in Guatemala and later served as a missionary in Uruguay, Cache Valley has long been part of her life. After completing her education, she chose to settle here permanently and has now called the area home for nearly two decades.
She understands the lifestyle of Northern Utah families, from active outdoor recreation to the challenges of dry winters and high-altitude sun exposure.
Outside of the clinic, Heather enjoys hiking, canyoneering, camping, and skiing with her husband and three children. She also competes in triathlons and hopes to complete a full Ironman in the future, a reflection of her dedication, discipline, and love of personal challenge.
